Author of the Platformocracy newsletter, Xoogler, 30-year Internet veteran
Hi! I write the Platformocracy newsletter, telling the story of how tech companies became unelected governments and what to do about it. I am also an Advisory Fellow at Harvard's Berkman Klein Center for Internet at Society. My 30 years on the Internet led from dot-com startups to an MBA to a SaaS turnaround acquired by Google for $3.1 billion. I spent 15 years as a senior leader of Google product management teams that built billion-dollar advertising businesses and made billions of people safer online before leaving in 2023. I spent most of 2024 at Harvard as founding director of the Applied Social Media Lab. In my free time, I am a happy husband and father of two sons, with a boundless enthusiasm for grilling, whiskey, and all flavors of nerdery (but especially Marvel and D&D). I serve on the boards of Montclair Local Nonprofit News and New Jersey 11th for Change, and the Trust & Safety Advisory Group of the Institute for Security and Technology. I finally got a dog!
